As we embark on the celebration of Black History Month, we are honored to spotlight the remarkable achievements and legacy of the Ross family, pioneers in the automotive industry. On February 22, 2024, the Bob Ross Auto Group proudly marks its 50th Anniversary, a testament to the visionary leadership and groundbreaking contributions of Robert P. Ross Sr. and the continued success under the guidance of Jenell Ross.
In 1974, Robert P. Ross Sr. achieved his dream of becoming an Automobile Dealer on February 22, a date that holds significant historical importance for the Ross family. Starting in his hometown of Richmond, IN, where he once worked as a lot attendant in high school, Ross Sr. successfully operated Bob Ross Buick Opal and International Harvester. His journey marked numerous milestones:
Ross Sr. played a pivotal role in the establishment of NAMAD (National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers), creating opportunities for minorities to enter the automobile dealership industry. His impact extended beyond business, receiving awards and recognition locally, regionally, and nationally for his success in the automotive sector and contributions to the community.
Sadly, his untimely passing in 1997 shifted the trajectory of the family and the Bob Ross Auto Group.
Following the passing of Robert P. Ross Sr., Jenell Ross assumed leadership as Dealer Principal, with her mother Norma J Ross as President. In 2010, another historic moment unfolded as Jenell became the First African American 2nd Generation Female to Own an Automobile Dealership. A trailblazer in her own right, Jenell continued to break barriers:
Tragically, Norma J Ross lost her battle to breast cancer in 2010, but her legacy lives on through the achievements of her daughter.
As we celebrate the Bob Ross Auto Group’s 50th Anniversary on February 22, 2024, we also recognize it as the First African American Automobile Dealer to achieve this milestone. The Ross family’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and community service remains at the forefront, inspiring generations to come.
Join us in honoring the legacy of Robert P. Ross Sr. and applauding Jenell Ross for her groundbreaking achievements as we celebrate Black History and the indelible mark left on the automotive industry.
